OUR MISSION
Recovery shouldn’t mean putting your life on hold.
We believe a broken foot shouldn’t break your independence. The XLEG transfers your weight off the
injured leg and onto the strong tissue of your thigh — so your hands stay free, your other joints stay
healthy, and you keep showing up for work, family, and the life you were living before. Designed,
engineered, and manufactured in Calgary by people who’ve recovered on it themselves.
Better than crutches. Better than a knee scooter.
Crutches bruise your underarms, tire your wrists, and leave you white-knuckling every staircase. Knee scooters are bulky, can’t handle stairs, and tie up both hands. The XLEG becomes part of you. Walk hands-free, climb stairs, carry your coffee, and move at your own pace — pain-free.
The XLEG Difference

Built by someone who needed it.
After a 2015 car accident left him non-weight-bearing, founder Reid Robinson couldn’t accept that crutches were the best medicine had to offer. So he built something better — by hand, in Calgary. Every XLEG is still made here, refined with orthopedic specialists and biomedical engineers. “We get it. We lived it.
Questions buyers ask

Many customers have successfully used the XLEG with a cast or boot. This will depend upon the size of the cast or boot. We recommend you inform your doctor of your desire to use the XLEG, as they can prescribe a low profile cast or boot which would be better suited to work with the XLEG.
-
If prescribed by your doctor a portion or the entire cost may be covered by insurance (varies with plans and providers). The XLEG is classified as a mobility assistance device and isconsidered to be DME (Durable Medical Equipment or HCPCS Code: E0118).

The XLEG comes in several sizes to accommodate the fit for different bodies. Upon purchase of the XLEG, you will receive an email within 24 hours requesting a set of leg measurements and basic information. These measurements are used to determine the frame size required (regular or wide) and to build the thigh cuff. Each thigh cuff is custom build as per your measurements to ensure the best possible fit and comfort. We currently only have adult sizes.
-
The standard color of the XLEG is black on black (Black Frame & Black Cuffs). Upon request, the XLEG frame can be finished in a wide variety of colors. Each XLEG is hard-anodized which hardens and applies color the first layer of metal. Although this does not change the price, it will take longer to receive your XLEG as we do not stock colored frames.
-
The XLEG can be used for both partial and full non-weight bearing. The XLEG can be adjusted to safely control the amount of weight borne by the by the lower leg. Note: As a wearable device, the XLEG extends the length of the injured leg. To avoid alignment issues, always use a shoe with a heel and lift if needed on the opposing foot to offset the additional height created by the XLEG.
-
No, the XLEG is a passive device designed to provide full range of motion for the knee joint.
-
The XLEG has been tested to safely support individuals up to 275lbs. XLEG is not intended for use by children under 18 years old. Your ability to safely use the XLEG will depend upon your current mobility, leg strength and balance. If prior to your injury/condition, you had no issues with leg strength or balance that prevented you from walking and ascending/descending a set of stairs without assistance (Handrail or other assistance device), the XLEG would likely be a great solution.
-
Yes, the XLEG can be safely used for going up and down stairs. Always use at least one handrail when ascending or descending any staircase. We recommend that you lead with the XLEG going down the stairs, and lead with your opposing leg when going up the stairs - one stair at a time. It may take a day or two to get used to the additional length of the XLEG. To begin, watch to see where the XLEG feet land when you first navigate the stairs in both directions and adjust accordingly for your gait type. When going down the stairs, it is important to be aware that the rear of the frame will extend 1-2 inches behind the calf – you may need to adjust your step to prevent catching on the previous stair.
