Recover Without Limits.

The world’s only true hands-free, wearable crutch alternative that provides full range of motion - move, work, and live while you heal.

OUR MISSION

Recovery shouldn’t mean putting your life on hold.

We believe a broken foot shouldn’t break your independence. The XLEG transfers your weight off the
injured leg and onto the strong tissue of your thigh — so your hands stay free, your other joints stay
healthy, and you keep showing up for work, family, and the life you were living before. Designed,
engineered, and manufactured in Calgary by people who’ve recovered on it themselves.

Why the XLEG

Better than crutches. Better than a knee scooter.

Crutches bruise your underarms, tire your wrists, and leave you white-knuckling every staircase. Knee scooters are bulky, can’t handle stairs, and tie up both hands. The XLEG becomes part of you. Walk hands-free, climb stairs, carry your coffee, and move at your own pace — pain-free.

The XLEG Difference

Why people choose the XLEG

Every benefit of the XLEG was designed to address a specific failure of traditional mobility devices — from crutches to knee scooters.

Truly Hands-Free

Both hands completely free from the moment you stand up. Carry your coffee, your child, your work bag. No crutches. No steering. Just living.

Clinically Safer

Walking naturally prevents the dangerous compensatory movements crutches force on your body — protecting your hips, back, and shoulders from secondary injury.

Go Anywhere

Stairs. Uneven terrain. Getting in and out of a vehicle. The XLEG handles every situation you face in a normal day — without planning your route around obstacles.

Faster Recovery

Retaining your natural gait keeps muscles engaged and circulation healthy throughout recovery — with the potential to meaningfully reduce your total time off your feet.

A Smarter Investment

The real cost of an injury isn't the device — it's lost income, extended physiotherapy, and a longer recovery. XLEG helps you return to work sooner and may reduce treatment needs. And when prescribed by your doctor, it's insurance-eligible — meaning the price difference may be covered entirely.

Keep Your Life

Work, family, recreation — XLEG lets you re-enter your life the moment you feel ready. An injury doesn't have to mean disappearing from the things and people you love.

COMPARE

THE ONLY CHOICE WITH FULL RANGE OF MOTION.

The XLEG is the first truly wearable, hands-free crutch alternative that provides full range of motion and the ability to work normally during recovery. See how it compares.

★★★★★

I ruptured my left anterior tibial tendon and was told that I cannot bear weight on my left leg for six weeks.  I have been using the XLEG for several weeks and it has allowed me to perform daily activities
without assistance as I can use my hands.
I walk about a mile per day with the XLEG and this helps to minimize muscle atrophy in my hip and thigh.  Reid Robinson, the inventor of the XLEG, has provided excellent customer service.  I highly recommend the XLEG.

"The X Leg has been a lifesaver for me after my revision surgery on my ankle. I have been wearing it for the last few months. It allowed me to walk my daughter down the aisle for her wedding in Scotland. I have toured the highlands of Scotland, walking up stairs in hotels, and I have made four trips to the UK."

"Just a note to thank you for rescuing my life! Using the XLeg from Aug 10 thru the end of March was able to more freely move around, climb the stairs around the house…and WALK helped to decrease the amount of atrophy for a faster recovery.  Great mobility, getting in/out of car for appointments – PRICELESS! There is absolutely NO substitute for the XLEG. Truly, many, many thanks!!!!!"

"I just wanted to reach out to you to express my great satisfaction with the X-leg. I am a physician and this has been a life changer compared to using traditional crutches. I am back to work and able to do most daily activities. It is surprising this product is not very popular and even a lot of orthopedic surgeons and sport physicians in the states are not aware of it."

"Totally liberating. I couldn't believe how amazing it was to not be on crutches for the time I was using it. I also feel that it helped me recover because I was actively using my injured leg to walk around."

"I no longer have back pain from hunching over to use a crutch and it’s just really easy once you have it fitted properly and pain free to get around. I wish I would have found this sooner."

"I'm in love with this product! It's been so helpful and I don't need to have people hovering to make sure I don't need anything which I can't tell you in words how wonderful it feels to be more normal again."

Our Story

Built by someone who needed it.

After a 2015 car accident left him non-weight-bearing, founder Reid Robinson couldn’t accept that crutches were the best medicine had to offer. So he built something better — by hand, in Calgary. Every XLEG is still made here, refined with orthopedic specialists and biomedical engineers. “We get it. We lived it.

Questions buyers ask

  • Many customers have successfully used the XLEG with a cast or boot. This will depend upon the size of the cast or boot. We recommend you inform your doctor of your desire to use the XLEG, as they can prescribe a low profile cast or boot which would be better suited to work with the XLEG.

  • If prescribed by your doctor a portion or the entire cost may be covered by insurance (varies with plans and providers). The XLEG is classified as a mobility assistance device and isconsidered to be DME (Durable Medical Equipment or HCPCS Code: E0118).

  • The XLEG can be used for but not limited to:

    Fractured foot/ankle

    Fractured lower Tibia/Fibula

    3rd-degree ankle sprain

    Prior to knee surgery

    Bunion surgery

    Tibial Plateau Fracture

Other – any other localized lower extremity short or long term condition that requires non-weight bearing period of treatment

  • The XLEG comes in several sizes to accommodate the fit for different bodies. Upon purchase of the XLEG, you will receive an email within 24 hours requesting a set of leg measurements and basic information. These measurements are used to determine the frame size required (regular or wide) and to build the thigh cuff. Each thigh cuff is custom build as per your measurements to ensure the best possible fit and comfort. We currently only have adult sizes.

  • The standard color of the XLEG is black on black (Black Frame & Black Cuffs). Upon request, the XLEG frame can be finished in a wide variety of colors. Each XLEG is hard-anodized which hardens and applies color the first layer of metal. Although this does not change the price, it will take longer to receive your XLEG as we do not stock colored frames.

  • The XLEG can be used for both partial and full non-weight bearing. The XLEG can be adjusted to safely control the amount of weight borne by the by the lower leg. Note: As a wearable device, the XLEG extends the length of the injured leg. To avoid alignment issues, always use a shoe with a heel and lift if needed on the opposing foot to offset the additional height created by the XLEG.

  • No, the XLEG is a passive device designed to provide full range of motion for the knee joint.

  • The XLEG has been tested to safely support individuals up to 275lbs. XLEG is not intended for use by children under 18 years old. Your ability to safely use the XLEG will depend upon your current mobility, leg strength and balance. If prior to your injury/condition, you had no issues with leg strength or balance that prevented you from walking and ascending/descending a set of stairs without assistance (Handrail or other assistance device), the XLEG would likely be a great solution.

  • Yes, the XLEG can be safely used for going up and down stairs. Always use at least one handrail when ascending or descending any staircase. We recommend that you lead with the XLEG going down the stairs, and lead with your opposing leg when going up the stairs - one stair at a time. It may take a day or two to get used to the additional length of the XLEG. To begin, watch to see where the XLEG feet land when you first navigate the stairs in both directions and adjust accordingly for your gait type. When going down the stairs, it is important to be aware that the rear of the frame will extend 1-2 inches behind the calf – you may need to adjust your step to prevent catching on the previous stair.

  • The XLEG is currently only available through direct sale to customers here on our webstore.

Life doesn't wait.
Neither should you.

Every day on crutches is a day you're not living your life. XLEG gives you your mobility back — completely, not partially.
